Not Just a Campus, But a Calling

Reflections from a Civilian Professor on the Severn

"In most universities, you teach students. At the Naval Academy, you develop leaders. There is a profound difference in the air here—a mix of salt water, ambition, and selfless service."

Why I Teach Here

Walking through the Ariel Gate every morning isn't just a commute; it’s an honor. While the academic rigor matches any Ivy League institution, the Midshipmen bring a unique sense of purpose to every lecture. They aren't just studying for a grade; they are preparing for the weight of command.

My favorite moments aren't just in the lab or the lecture hall—it's seeing a student transform from a Plebe into a confident Midshipman 1/C, ready to lead sailors and marines.
